Wellness categories, not a product ranking

A supplement is a product, not a prescription and not a personality. These notes are general. They are not a recommendation for you.

Joint comfort products

Glucosamine, chondroitin, turmeric extracts

Worth knowing

  • Sold without a prescription and usually inexpensive.
  • Serious side effects are uncommon at ordinary doses for many healthy adults.

Limits

  • Evidence that they reduce pain is mixed. Labels that promise to rebuild joints overclaim.
  • A hot, swollen, or locking joint needs a clinician, not a bottle.

Vitamin D

Cholecalciferol (D3) tablets and drops

Worth knowing

  • A blood test can show a real deficiency, and correcting one is ordinary medical care.
  • Low doses are widely available if a clinician has told you to take them.

Limits

  • High doses can raise blood calcium and cause harm.
  • Taking more when your level is already normal is not a longevity plan.

Omega-3 (fish oil)

Store-brand fish oil and algae oil

Worth knowing

  • Easy to find, and a clinician can order a prescription-strength product when triglycerides are the actual problem.
  • A labeled dose is simpler to compare than a proprietary blend.

Limits

  • A grocery fish-oil capsule is not the same as a prescription omega-3 used in heart studies.
  • Quality, contaminants, and the amount of EPA and DHA vary by bottle.

Before you buy any bottle

  • Look for a third-party quality mark, such as USP, and still read the dose.
  • Ignore disease-treatment claims on the label. Dietary supplements are not allowed to claim they treat a disease.
  • Tell your clinician what you take. Several products change how prescriptions work.
  • Skip anything sold as a research chemical.

What this site will not link

  • Research peptides and vials labeled “not for human consumption.”
